BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

Decades of practice focused on healing and relationships

As a retired therapist who practiced in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area, I have twenty-nine years of experience working with men, women, couples, adolescents, and children. I specialized in psychological assessment, abuse, trauma, and attachment. Specifically, I find great joy in engaging with people in sacred conversation, thinking together about how different issues have affected a person’s ability to form and enjoy meaningful relationships.

I completed graduate school in 1997 at Colorado Christian University where I earned a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. I earned a doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2015 from Texas School of Professional Psychology of Argosy University, Dallas.

Personal Journey & Calling

I went through a period in 2023-2026 following retirement, moving away from a busy lifestyle, and intentionally slowing down and learning to be still - and quiet my soul. It was a deep and rich time for me - to soak in and swim in spiritual renewal. This season was used by God as a meaningful stimulus for spiritual growth and transformation. I enrolled and completed a two-year spiritual formation program with the Renovare Institute (RI); which was used by God to deepen my trust and enlarge my heart for him. After this, I joined a learning cohort and completed a one-year spiritual direction program with Portland Seminary/George Fox University which was followed by taking two months off the busy path of modern life to walk the Camino de Santiago (Frances route) - The Way of St. James.

This process was instrumental in moving me away from a head based evangelical faith to a descent to the heart faith which is more contemplative, deep, and whole. I am on a journey to experience more of his presence, voice, and knowing loving embrace as “I walk where my feet are.”

My primary calling as a spiritual companion (director) is to those in my “clan” stumbling pilgrims with a desire to follow “the way of Jesus.” Those who seek a Christocentric faith with regard to belief and behavior but have a longing to go deeper in being, in their experience of God – having a longing/desire to listen deeply for the whisper of God and taste God’s trinitarian loving presence in their life.

Offering a place of grace in the midst of life's storms

Safe Harbor & Personal Life

I have found that the deepest learning comes through suffering and the loss of hope. Most of us find it hard to be still, rest, look within, and ask for help to calm the storm that rages in our bent in nature. My desire is to offer an adventurous “safe harbor” for people to heal as they take personal inventory and feel the gentle breeze of grace. Frederick Buechner put it this way: “Listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery it is. In the boredom and pain of it, no less than in the excitement and gladness: touch, taste, smell, your way to the holy and hidden heart of it, because in the last analysis all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace."

I have been married to my sweetheart, Theresa, since 1978. We have five adult children, two wonderful daughters-in-law, and six grandchildren. I enjoy reading, traveling, family dinner parties, running or walking with my wife and friends, and retreats devoted to prayer, contemplation, silence, and solitude. Above all, I cherish the life-giving space created through spiritual conversation. My treasured spiritual practices include singing to God, contemplative prayer, especially the Jesus Prayer, and the sacred rhythm of walking the labyrinth.
