The Banjo Lesson - Resting in the Rhythm of Grace
Terry L. Mullins
Contemplative Practice Reflection
The Banjo Lesson
Has been a quiet
And calming space
This week
A balm to my
Sometimes hurried pace
And anxious heart
I can become anxious
When disrupted by sudden
Unexpected
Or disappointing news
From one of my kids
I can go into the fix-it mode
Unhealthy
I have noticed something
Different in my heart
Over the last few years though
After thinking about
The Banjo Lesson
I have noticed that
My desire to know
And spend time with God
Is stronger than my desire
That my child be good
This is a freeing notice
And a good banjo lesson
Father, thank you
That I at any moment
Can take solace
And know the gentle, tender
Warm safety of your lap
Help me to listen
To the rhythm
Of your heartbeat
And learn the lesson
You want to teach me
On your banjo of love
As I rest in the
Glimmer and light
Of your presence
